Oh My Miercoles: Don Omar Teams Up with the Zumba Crew to Create the Most Unrealistic Workout Video Ever.
For this week’s edition “Oh My Miercoles!” (aka: what gets these gringas rolling their eyes…or at least, giggling), we’ve got a reggaetonero teaming with the current dance cardio craze known as Zumba. If you’re looking for an idea of what you’re Zumba experience will never be, then look no further than recent collaboration between Don Omar and the Zumba Crew. I’m not gonna lie, I like the song, and I love me some Zumba. But seriously, this video is painfully unrealistic, and when you’re dealing with a workout method whose results are highly touted, that’s a little unfair to the consumer!
First of all, Zumba will not make you look like any of the people in the video. That is primarily because the people is this video are clearly professional dancers with toned and sculpted abs that were earned via more cardio and strength training than one can achieve from popping into a one hour Zumba session at your local gym a couple times a week.
Second of all, this video shows a group of happy, perfectly in sync, complicatedly dressed Zumba enthusiasts that are occasionally misted with water and get to take breaks while reclining on pimped out vehicles looking super cool. Reality check: when you actually take a Zumba class, half the people have no idea what’s going, most people are wearing sloppy workout clothes (though some sincerely make an effort!) and everyone is most likely a hot sweaty mess breathing hard and just trying to keep up. Because let’s be honest everybody that’s what a real workout looks like.
I’m not saying that taking a Zumba class isn’t as fun as it looks in this video. I’m simply pointing out that the creative liberties taken in the production of the video represent a Zumba class the average cardio seeker will not be able to find. Unless they wander onto the set of the next video campaign.
